I usually try to send out weekly emails with helpful information and links to my most recent blog posts (and past favorites). But this past week, things were different.
I sent out an email telling my loyal subscribers why they weren’t receiving my normal email in their inbox. And to my surprise, it really resonated with them. Apparently, there are many of you that are feeling the same pain. Who knew that I was so “normal”.
But before I get to that (and I forget), if you haven’t already joined my FREE coaching group where you’ll learn more about WordPress, social media marketing, email marketing, blogging and all things techie. I’d love to see you there so CLICK HERE to join.
Anyway below is the gist of my email. I’d love to hear your thoughts of what you do when you just don’t feel like it.
Confession: Today, I didn’t publish a blog post. Gasp! The horror!!!
Why you may ask?
Honestly, I didn’t feel like it!
The past few weeks have been crazy here.
With Easter this past week, I feel like I’ve been running a small bed and breakfast for our out of town family. Yes, it was awesome to have everyone come visit me in sunny Florida, but I was crazy busy with meal planning, cooking and playing Julie the Cruise Director (only those as old as me will get that reference, lol)
But it wasn’t just the one and half weeks of family visits that took up my time – as soon as everyone left my youngest daughter, husband and I packed our bags and headed north to Gainesville for a college visit. She wants to be a Florida Gator, it’s all very overwhelming… for me…
Needless to say, I’m whooped. A lot of stuff got done, but not a lot of “work” got done.
Which means things got piled up. Emails went unchecked. And my blog post this week is going unpublished.
And, guess what?
No fires burned.
I’m still alive to tell the tale and, best part, my business bank account still grew from my digital product sales. That’s right, I still made money even when I didn’t show up to work!
Do you ever stop to ask yourself WHY are you doing this?
Why are you building a business?
Why are you really putting in all this work?
For me, I have many WHYs:
I want to prove I can
- I want to pull my weight financially in the family
- Most importantly: I want to have the freedom and flexibility to do what I want, when I want it
- #3 is truly the driving force for my business (on the personal side). Why build a business you’re a slave to?
I want to be able to say, “Okay, family’s coming in for a visit. Let’s put work on hold so I can SOAK up this time with them.”
I want to be able to spontaneously pack a bag and head out for a long weekend get-away.
I want to be able to meet a friend for lunch in the middle of a work day just to hang.
I want to spend as much time as I can with my daughter before she heads off to college and her life.
I want to be able to be FREE to pause work and still make money.
Because, let’s be real: you should be able to make money without showing up to work everyday!
Thankfully, I’ve built a business that allows me to call the shots, push back deadlines and still make money.
Anyway, that’s all I have for you today! No plug, no promo. Just an honest story about why I haven’t published a new post this week!
